Oriana Fallaci: The Force of Reason

The Force of Reason

Description

Throughout her intense career, Oriana Fallaci, one of Italy's most notorious recorders of history, has ignited passionate debate amongst politicians, intellectuals, and ordinary citizens both European and American. The genesis for "The Force of Reason" was a postscript entitled "Due anni dopo" ("Two Years Later"), which was intended as a brief appendix to the thirtieth edition of "The Rage and the Pride" (2002). However, once Ms. Fallaci completed the postscript, she decided to expand it into book, a continuation of her ideas set in motion in Rage. In "The Force of Reason", Fallaci takes as her starting point the many attacks and death threats she received after the publication of "The Rage and the Pride". She begins by identifying herself with one Master Cecca, the author of a heretical book who was burnt at the stake seven centuries ago during the Inquisition and proceeds with a rigorous analysis of what she calls the "Fire of Troy," meaning the creation of a Europe that, to her judgment, is no longer Europe but rather Eurabia, a colony of Islam (with Italy as its stronghold). Ms. Fallaci explores her ideas in historical, philosophical, moral, and political terms, courageously addressing taboo topics with logic.

One of the most crucial, volatile, and complex regions of the modern world, the Middle East has long confounded the dreams of conquerors and peacemakers alike. This now-classic book, fully updated to 2012 and still the essential work on the subject, follows the historic struggles of the Middle East from Napoleon s campaign in Egypt and Syria, through the slow decline and fall of the Ottoman Empire, to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the history of Islam and its recent resurgence. spacer "Vague and general phrases...cannot provide the basis for a genuine art of education, which depends on real knowledge of the human being. It is not that such phrases are wrong, but that they are as useless as saying that all parts of a machine must be made to work together harmoniously. To make a machine work you have to apply real, detailed knowledge, not phrases and truisms. For the art of education likewise, what is important is specific insight into the way the human being is constituted, and how each aspect develops." In his earliest and most succinct statement regarding education, Rudolf Steiner describes the stages of childhood development and explains why it is important to introduce aspects of the The Force of Reason free pdf curriculum at specific times. He relates developmental steps in children to the "births" of the non-physical aspects of the human being: the etheric body that accompanies the change of teeth, the astral body that becomes apparent at puberty, and the birth of the "I" that heralds the individual's maturation to adulthood. Without this knowledge, says Steiner, well-meaning but misguided educational theory and practise can cause harm.
